The Minister of Mines, Hon. Anthony Mavunde, visited the Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) stand at the sixth Geita Mining & Technology Exhibition and was briefed on the various projects being implemented.
The Minister was also shown an example of a modern sports ground project (Magogo Stadium) partially funded by GGML, a multipurpose sports facility in the Geita region.
He was briefed by GGML Communications Manager, Stephen Mhando, who explained that since the inaugural event in 2018, the company has always participated, been the main sponsor and also donated Shs150 million this year.
Mhando also told the minister that apart from being the main sponsor this year, GGML also provided a standby generator in case of emergency.
Some GGML employees briefing the Geita Regional Police Commander (RPC), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Safia Jong, on the mining activities currently taking place at Geita Mine.
In addition to Mavunde's tour of the nine GGML departments present at the fair, Mhando also told him that more than Shs2.4 billion has so far been spent on the construction of the modern sports ground.
"This work is ongoing and we, at GGML, the primary sponsors of Geita Football Club, believe that the partnership will persist in a similar capacity," he said.
