He said the move sought to create a well planned and designed buildings so that the mistakes experienced in Dar es Salaam city could not be repeated in other cities, Dodoma being the newest.

He made the announcement when he was opening an Architects and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board (AQRB) 29th Professional Development Seminar. “Dodoma City officials must learn from what happened in Dar es Salaam.

From that vivid example, other officials in various regions must come up with well designed and planned architectural drawings that observe building specifications and codes,” the premier said.

Mr Majaliwa said the government, through the Regional Administration and Local Government ministry, had crafted construction guidelines to be adhered by those undertaking government projects. He advised local surveyors to take advantage of the ongoing construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to learn and gain skills from the foreign experts on the field.

On his part, the Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Prof Makame Mbarawa, called upon the board to come up with a strategy that would enable them pick best graduates for internship posts in the ongoing SGR construction project.

The AQRB Board Chairman, Dr Lufigija Bulamile said the board, in collaboration with other stakeholders, had come up with low cost architectural designs and layout plans for the construction of public health facilities, which are expected to be built in various wards across the country.
