The 22 Medical officers who aired their claims during the tour of the deputy minister recently were sacked without being given their benefits, one day after the meeting which was held on 27 February this year, where they complained over mistreatment by their superiors.

Some of the claims expressed by the hospital workers included low wages and delays in deposition of their benefits and contributions to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and union of health workers.

Ms Matiro said that she was more confused by the report that the workers who expressed their claims about maltreatment from their bosses were sacked without proper reasons.

“From today all workers who have been sacked are reinstated, and I order you to pay them their benefits for 14 days, this includes National Social Security Fund (NSSF), workers union benefits and their salaries, and failure to comply with this order will be faced with prosecution,” said Ms Matiro in her statement. DC Matiro said the decision to expel the workers is sort of misconduct and absence of respect to the government officials, because the aim of the tour in the hospital was for the deputy minister to know about challenges they faced, therefore, she was amazed how those who aired their views ended up being fired.

One of the sacked workers, Ms Elizabeth Zabron, narrated that after putting forward their views concerning the problems they face, they were astonished to find their 22 names on the notice board instructing them to meet with top officials.

She said that they thought the notification was meant for them to see their bosses to be paid their claims as highlighted to the deputy minister, but they were surprised when they were handed termination letters, which prompted them to report the matter to the DC. On his part, the Kolandoto Deputy Medical Officer, Dr Maganga Dohoi said the 22 were fired because they do not have form four certificates.
