Deputy Minister for Finance and Planning, Dr Ashatu Kijaji, told the National Assembly here that TRA has decided to avoid using the agents who are said to have plunged the Authority into chaos.

"These agents have caused a lot of losses to TRA. As from July, this year, TRA will assume the role of distributing the EFD machines, but we will not distribute them to businesspeople free of charge," she said when responding to a question by Richard Mbogo (Nsimbo-CCM).

According to the deputy minister, the devices will be distributed to concerned persons first, but there will be a special arrangement of deducting the costs to be incurred from taxes that would be paid.

In his question, the MP had explained that the technology has been acting as a catalyst of development and, thus, easing the settlements of different bills using several transactions through mobile phones, notably recharged vouchers, electricity bills and tax, among others.

He, therefore, wanted to know what kind of evidence a taxpayer should have in hard paper for TRA inspectors to see and be satisfied with the payments made
