Twiga versus Zambia, Heroes to face DRC

According to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Media and Communication Officer, Clifford Ndimbo, the two legged first round qualifying matches will be played in April, this year.

Ndimbo said the first leg is set for April 4th, while the return leg is scheduled for April 10th. The finals will be staged in Ghana later this year. Twiga Stars have been training regularly in Dar es Salaam under Head Coach, Sebastian Nkomwa to shape up for the qualifiers.

Twiga Stars qualified for their first CAF Women’s Championship finals in 2010, after defeating Eritrea 11-4 on aggregate. Meanwhile, Ndimbo said the national Under-20 soccer team, Ngorongoro Heroes have been drawn against The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) side in the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The first round, first leg encounter will be staged in Tanzania on either March 30, 31 and April 1, this year, while the return leg match will take place away in Congo on either March 20 or 21, or 22, this year.

If they progress past the first round, Ngorongoro Heroes will face Mali in the second round, with the first leg scheduled for either May 11 or 12 or 13, this year. The finals will be staged in Niger, next year. Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, South Africa and Zambia have been exempted for the first round.

The teams exempted are the 12 that qualified to the final tournaments of the last two editions, in addition to the four teams that reached the last round of the qualifiers of the last edit
