The league that involves men and ladies teams is played every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in different grounds in the city. According to Gosbert Boniface, the regional basketball body (DB) Technical and Competition Director, Savio are dictating terms in the league that has entered its fifth week since its February 10 launch and has become highly competitive.

Savio made a sky-high leap after humiliating Kurasini Heat 81-44 and before overpowering Magnet 93-40. They now lead the league table with 15 points after playing eight matches. Savio who endured a dismal start with a loss to Oilers in league’s opening day, avenged the loss with seven consecutive victories in their next matches. While Oilers, who are yet to lose a game from six outings, defeated Magone73- 53 to claim the second position with 12 points, Vijana City Bulls who also recorded a 99- 61 win over Jogoo, are positioned third.

Vijana have played seven matches, they have won five of them losing two in the men’s category that involves 16 Dar teams. It is tough league as narrow points differentiate between teams. Other teams and their points in the brackets are ABC (10), JKT (10), Pazi (10), Don Bosco Youngstars (10), Magnet (10), Mabibo Bullets (9), Jogoo (9), Ukonga Kings (9), Kurasini Heat (8), Tanzania Prison (7), Magone (7), UDSM Insider (6) and Kigamboni (6). The first round battle looks tough for six teams pitted in the ladies category. Ukonga Queens who have played four matches, lead by a point after collecting 8 points.

The leaders who are yet to concede a match, are followed by Don Bosco Lioness who have carved 7 points with one loss and three wins, while JKT Stars who have four wins and a loss are placed third also with 7 points. Jeshi Stars are positioned fourth with 5 points from four matches, while Oilers Princesses who have played five matches, have also notched 5 points and at the bottom are Vijana Queens who have played three matches and collected 4 points
