Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the Managing Director for Executive Solutions, Agrey Marealle, whose company is the national coordinator for the marathon, said the minister has confirmed that he will grace the occasion. “On behalf of our sponsors, I want to sincerely thank the minister for his invaluable support to sports specifically athletics, as he has seen the need to come to Moshi to witness this tournament, which is so far the biggest athletics events in Tanzania,” he said.
He lauded the Ministry of Sports for the cooperation it has been extending to the event since it was started. “We as organisers and coordinators promise the government that we will continue to ensure that the Kilimanjaro Marathon follows all the athletics rules and regulations because this is an IAAF recognised event. Meanwhile, Marealle said this year the event will not feature the 10km race for people with disability.
“This race will not feature this year as the sponsor (GAPCO) was sold to Total. We are in the process of sourcing another sponsor and once things are in place we will announce the resumption of the race in the next editions,” he said. Registration of the marathon continues in Arusha today at Kibo Palace Hotel from 2-5pm and later move to Moshi on Thursday from12 pm to 7pm, Friday from10 am to 7pm and Saturday from 9am to 12pm.
Sponsors include Kilimanjaro Premium Lager-42km, Tigo 21km and Grand Malt 5km. Others include First National Bank, Kilimanjaro Water, Diamond Motors Limited, Kibo Palace, KK Security, Keys Hotel, TPC Sugar, Simba Cement, KNAUF Gypsum and AAR as the official Medial Partner.
