He said President of the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Phares Magesa is expected to grace the opening ceremony. “We are happy that the league is commencing this Saturday and it will be the 2018 season opening of the Junior NBA League hence people should expect great things and we request them to come at the Park in their big numbers to enjoy the tournament,” Mgunda said.
He added that the Junior League will keep on complementing efforts being made by the TBF in uplifting the sport from the grassroots level, where he said real talent of basketball is found. “To say the truth, we cannot say about the development of basketball without investing heavily in Junior Leagues and we need support from partners across the nation to promote the growth of this sport together,” he said.
According to him, a total of 60 teams (30 Boys and 30 Girls teams) comprising of 900 youth players are expected to compete in the league with two opening games on the day involving Agakhan against Lord Baden Powel in boys category, while in girls package, Juhudi will take on St Augustine
