Faru volleyball player scoops Kampala scholarship

Sharifu said that Ngong’e will join form five level to continue with studies at the school and at the same time, sharpen his volleyball skills. He expressed his pleasure for player, saying it was a big step for him (Ngong’e), club and country at large.

“I’m very happy for him, this is want I try to do for the game… working hard and achieve our goal, which is to promote and develop volleyball to the higher level,” Sharifu said. The coach said that Ngong’e will be missed by his newly introduced team – Faru, which later this month will make their maiden appearance at Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball Association (DAREVA) Senior League.

“Certainly, he will be missed, but we are much organised team,” he said, adding that they are expecting to organise a farewell game for him before he leaves for Uganda. Faru Volleyball Club is under Nasoro Sharifu Volleyball Academy (NSVA), a centre which aims at developing the game from grass-roots level. Most players forming Faru team are aged between 18-14.

They are Ezekiel Robinson, Nasoro Kisera (setter), Brayson Kaneja, Khalid Rashid, Joseph Justine, Malius Bugingo, Joseph Barnabas, Muksini Muhinga, Baraka Mabeyo, Innocent Nyambasu, Daniel Paul, Johannes Muhandiki, Charles Okore (all attackers) and two liberos Rashid Mustapha and Ibrahim Hassan.

The team is under two coaches -- Sharifu and Abrahamu Magebo, trainers are John Galus and Edwin Smith, team ambassador Moshi Ally, while Robin Msigwa occupies media and equipment position. The academy that officially opened last August in the city, recruits talented youth both boys and girls.
