A number of sports activities were lined up to colour the week, which saw over two hundred DUCE employees actively taking part in various sports programmes. However, it was two rival teams; Serengeti and Ngorongoro that heralded the beauty of the whole event.
At the end, Serengeti emerged overall winners of this year’s bonanza after winning 13 of 24 sports staged throughout the week while their opponents Ngorongoro won 11 of them. Serengeti posted their first win in football on the inaugural day of the bonanza thanks to a 4-3 post match penalties win over Ngorongoro in a fiercely contested match.
The normal period of play ended 1-1 with, both goals scored in the second half. Hence penalties had to be played to find the winner. Since then, the Serengeti team was always keen and cautious to win most of their games no wonder they excelled in other field sports disciplines like netball and volleyball.
The tug of war tie was the most closely fought battle between these two teams since each side had healthy individuals who were able to use their muscles effectively.
However, Serengeti won it in males category while in female group, Ngorongoro stood tall. In sack race, Diana Mosha for Ngorongoro team stole the show in female category while in darts, Ruth Mahenge smiled for her victory as she emerged the winner.
Another exciting event on the day was card game in which Shukuru Misozi from Serengeti won the contest beating her fellow colleagues in the process. Speaking after the eventful bonanza, DUCE Acting Principal Godliving Mtui, said they will continue to organise such sports activities as one way to improve health of the workers.
