Organised by Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball Association (DAREVA), its opening round was wholly dominated by low profiled teams. They newly formed Faru stunned volleyball giants Jeshi Stars and Mji Mwema with hefty victories.
The little known club began the league with voluminous 3-0 set win over Mji Mwema before sending a warning to the rivals with 3-1 victory over giants Jeshi Stars in their second outing at the same venue on Sunday.
Another volleyball giant, Tanzania Prisons posted a 3-0 set win over Makongo in their opening men game on Saturday. The second game saw Chui enjoying a 3-0 win over Victory before Mji Mwema suffering a three set loss to Faru. Things turned opposite in the second match when Mji Mwema downsized Faru with three set victory.
The Sunday showdown also witnessed Chui claiming a hard earned 3-2 win over City Dream Sports. Jeshi Stars dominated the Ladies category with 3-0 victory against the newly formed Dar Stars.
The presence of new teams and their stiff opposition to the league giants helped to colour the opening round of this year’s league according to the organisers DAREVA. The league continues next weekend at the same venue.
